The desktop app has no subscription or feature paywall. The optional purchase is prepaid credit for the text-only Wrengle AI tiers; signing in includes no free balance, and using a provider key of your own remains separate.

What does Wrengle cost right now?
The app is free while Wrengle is in beta, with no card to enter and no trial to run out, and nothing is held back behind a paid tier. Wrengle AI requests are the one thing with a price. A clean install starts assistant chat on Fast, but no request runs without prepaid credit and you can switch to a provider key of your own.
Do I need an account to use it?
No. Downloading Wrengle and using it needs no account and no email address. An account is optional and covers identity and profile — it is also what a Wrengle AI credit balance belongs to, if you decide to buy one. Signing in does not include free or recurring AI credit.
Do I have to use Wrengle AI?
No. A clean install starts assistant chat on Wrengle AI Fast, while upgrades preserve their existing explicit or Auto choice. You can switch to your own OpenAI or Anthropic key at any time; Auto considers only configured provider keys and never spends Wrengle AI credits. Managed routes are text-only and are never used as a fallback.
Will Wrengle always be free?
A permanent free tier for local-only work is planned, alongside paid personal and pro tiers. Those are the direction rather than live plans. The only thing you can buy right now is credits for Wrengle AI.
Does anything renew or bill me again?
No. There is no subscription and nothing renews on its own. Credits are bought once and spent as you make requests; when the balance runs out, requests stop rather than costing you more.
If I never pay, do I lose my notes?
Your notes are ordinary files in a folder you choose on your own machine. They are not stored inside a subscription, and they stay readable in any editor that opens plain text.

Beta access is live. Free desktop, Personal, and Pro are possible future plans for the app itself; they are separate from the Fast, Balanced, and Deep managed AI rates published in the docs.
