Introduction

You keep your notes, meetings, and AI-assisted work in a folder on your own machine. An account is optional; live document sync is a separate opt-in.

Wrengle is for:

• people evaluating whether Wrengle fits how they work;
• new users setting up a vault and writing their first notes;
• meeting-heavy users weighing transcription and AI privacy tradeoffs.

What Wrengle is

Wrengle is a desktop app for local notes, meeting workflows, search, and privacy-aware AI-assisted work. You work in a vault — a folder of your own files — through an editor, a file tree, a command palette, side panels, dictation, and voice control.

The built-in assistant and voice analysis can use cloud-only Auto. Auto prefers the most recently connected eligible AI provider, then OpenAI and Anthropic, and uses that provider's reviewed default model. Meeting reports and other non-chat generation require a supported direct OpenAI/Anthropic model or selected Wrengle AI tier. Without a usable selected route, the feature asks you to finish setup and sends nothing. Wrengle checks whether a saved key actually works only when a request runs, not before — so an expired or revoked key can still fail then.

A retired saved local-AI choice is never silently converted to cloud, and turning Cloud voice features off remains sticky. The Cloud voice features toggle only governs dictation speech and voice analysis, though: turning it off does not stop a separately chosen or Auto-resolved cloud assistant, and it does not change meeting transcription, which follows its own separate cloud setting. Local Whisper keeps speech recognition on your machine; Light edit and Voice Control analysis require a configured cloud provider and send the bounded transcribed context disclosed in the app. See AI and privacy for the full provider and privacy picture.

What Wrengle is not

Wrengle is not a hosted team workspace or a browser-first SaaS app, and it does not have a mobile app in this release.

Accounts are optional

You can download Wrengle, read these docs, and use the local desktop workspace without ever creating an account. Beta accounts are available through email or Google. Signing in adds account identity across the website, the docs navbar, and the desktop status bar. Signing in alone does not upload your vault. Sync across your computers is off by default and is turned on per vault in Settings. See Accounts and sign-in.

Availability labels

• Available — documented behavior available in the current build.
• Beta — usable behavior that may still change.
• Planned — product direction, not a shipped promise.
• Not in v1 — deliberately outside the first version.
